FRESHMAN CLASS
Our history as a class began in the autumn of 1936. When about twenty-two students entered Nine "B". We remember our first few days in high school as "Greenhorns", but we were soon overcome by the Black Star School Spirit, for this spirit was very contagious. This Freashman year was expecially interesting to us, a fact which was due largely to the credit of our enthusiastic English teacher, Miss Carroll, who worked with us faithfully. We felt very proud of ourselvs as Freshmen until we "hit" Alegbra. Then we wished Alegbra had never been invented. We are members of one brotherhood, bound together by a common purpose and enthusiasm. We students of the Freshman Class realize that we are far from the top yet, but we hope to keep climbing higher and live up to our motto: "EFFORT BRINGS SUCCESS".

PEP
At an early assembly cheer leaders were elected by the student body. J. B. Sexton, who really has stuck by his bunch of cheerers whether at home or away, proved a loyal leader. Christine Farmer and Selma Hughes were also elected and they both helped J. B. yell some games right out of the fire.

Coaches Howard and Giles made us realize that nothing helps the morale of a team so much as good backing.

The cheering section got off with a flying start in football season; then came basketball, the game so dear to all of the Black Star students. We were given one side of the gym for a cheering section and most of the students cooperated in cheering. This was not hard to do because our teams provided plenty of excitement and thrills. All leaders will be back and "rarin' to go" when school opens in the fall.
----Christine Farmer
